APUSH: Yes or No?

Next year I’m going to be a sophomore, and I was thinking about what courses I plan on taking. While thinking about this, my mind wondered to the infamous subject…
APUSH.
Now, I’ve heard mixed reviews about this one. A LOT of people despise the class, but I tend to still have the urge to experience it for myself. Unlike most of the people that said “no thanks” to the class, I actually enjoy history. I love learning about the past and seeing how it has shaped our society. I do pretty well in my Honors World History class, and I never really get stumped or stressed over it. I know that APUSH will be totally different, but I feel like I can take it.

With that said, I always second guess myself.I don’t know if I should take it. He is a rough draft of my course load next year:

-Honor English 10
-Honors Pre-Calc
-Honors Chemistry (I don’t think I want to take AP Bio because…I just don’t I guess)
-APUSH or HUSH
-Honors Spanish IV
-Intermediate 2-D Design/Photography
-Another Elective

With that in mind, should I take APUSH? I am really on the fence about this. Thanks so much!

If you want to challenge yourself and feel you can handle it, go for it.

I would take APUSH to challenge yourself. In my school in separated into two years, so after one year you could always transfer down to honors if you are not feeling it. Also depends on if you want to Ben within the top percentile of your class. I’ve noticed that at least 80% of the top 20 people, had taken APUSH 1 and some even took APUSH 2

Ditto per above. If you love something, don’t let other people who may not feel the same way hold you back. I really wish APUSH was an option when I was in school, instead it was offered the year after. From self studying it, I have found the synthesis writing skills you get from APUSH are helpful in college life and there are certain things that you delve into that you won’t in the honors level equivalents.

I’m a history lover too, and I’m in APUSH now. While I def. liked AP euro better, Apush has some interesting stuff and I’d recommend it. Plus the ap test is changing this year and it looks like it will be a lot easier.

Definitely take APUSH. It’s been one of my favorite classes so far even though it proved to be hard work. If you have the passion for history you’ll enjoy it!

Well if you had the teacher I had it would be a no brainer YES. I believe the lowest final grade was a 97 in my class

I would definitely go for it. Colleges want to see the most rigorous curriculum your school offers, the highest levels. If you can handle the load/time commitment then go for it! Best of luck

Having taken APUSH, I’d tell you to ask older students who have taken it. I don’t know your school, so I can’t say anything about that, but the teacher matters so much. Ask some upperclassmen and get their feel of it, pros/cons and weigh it against your workload as it seems you’re stacking yourself up pretty well in terms of academia.

I’m taking APUSH right now, and while it isn’t as interesting as AP World History was, I would definitely tell you to consider taking it. The content isn’t too hard, and if the alternative is the honors equivalent, you may as well take it. It won’t be as harsh on you if you enjoy history, and it looks like it wouldn’t be too hard on your schedule. Taking one AP class with those honors shouldn’t be too much of a problem, especially if you like the content.

Thank you to everyone that responded! I’ve done a lot of thinking and inquiring and I’ve come to the decision that I will try it. I am pretty excited for it, and thank you for encouraging me! I think I just worry myself too much haha. I’m going to do my best and hopefully it works out for the better!
