Hello Everyone,
Earlier I posted a topic about how ridiculous the meal plan prices are at the University of South Florida and I got so many replies which shocked me. I am posting another forum entry because I am curious about Aramark. (Aramark however is not responsible for the high meal plan prices) I am more concerned with are they responsible for the quality of food and what food is to be served on what days in the dining halls. Someone said in my previous forum entry that the food is repeated 3-4 times and you pretty much know what is coming the next day. This is true! Another thing that agitates me about the dining halls is that if you eat at noon for lunch and come back at five for dinner its the same foods! I can't get a variety unless I went to the other dining hall at a different time. Obviously that is one solution to the problem, but could there possibly be a change in the foods during the day? Not just from breakfast to lunch, but lunch to dinner? If you are on the ARAMARK company let me know your favorite dishes they serve at your school. (List the school name and your name and your class status freshmen sophomore etc) Or if you've got a different company what do they do differently? I'm curious to see the replies!

FSU - Aramark

Everything they serve is crap (and it’s far from cheap). Next year, I will definitely not be getting a meal plan. It was unfortunately required for me this year.

I actually think the expense is related to Aramark, because my meal plan (Arizona State) is pretty expensive too. I don’t think the food’s bad though… They have really good vegetarian options at one dining hall. Personally I think it does vary by campus, and by how much you bother them about what you want. So for example, I’m in the honors college, where we get better (though more expensive) food than everywhere else. And ASU has is really committed to sustainability to Aramark focuses more on that here… I’ve also never had the problem of meals being repeated.

Carnegie Mellon used to be on Aramark (they lost the contract to someone else this year), though it wasn’t with the traditional dining hall plan. They operated a bunch of different “restaurants” similar to how a food court is at a mall. The food was pretty blah, generally bland, and poorly made.

I do know they sell different tiers, as one of my friends had a job where their food was done by Aramark and they commented on how the food was both superb and cheap.

They used to do the food for my high school and it was pretty bad.

My school has Aramark…and if you live on campus you’re required to have a meal plan… :(. Way overpriced.

Aramack is at my school and it’s overpriced and the food sucks. If you don’t have a meal plan, it will cost you $9.29 for brunch on Sunday mornings at a dining hall (and the food is just food on sundays, on other days sometimes good, often not very good except during spring tour seasons!)

LOL, I remember my friend telling me about Aramark. I’m at a UC in So Cali, and their contract entitles them to serve ALL foods on the ENTIRE campus. They control it all–a monopoly. Friend said that it would be “cheaper” in terms of costs and what not in the long run.

During orientation and Welcome Wk the food was AMAZING, but the quality declined as the school year wore on (maybe I just got tired of it, too).

At my school, they do repeat foods, but each week usually has a variation, so you don’t get the same exact thing everyday. Its about 5.50 breakfast, 7.50 lunch and 9.50 dinner, unless you have a meal plan…I’m not getting a meal plan next year!
