Archaeology

Can anyone tell what college/unversity is best for obtaining a degree in archaeology?

I don't have a ranking. You could do what we did -- get the Peterson's list of schools with archaeology majors (usually, it is a specialty within anthropology). Then go to the web sites and see the professors they have, the courses they offer, the digs and special programs the department might have, etc. The list isn't THAT extensive and there are probably schools on it that you will cross off without much research being necessary.

Particularly good programs I remember -- Penn, Chicago, Wash U, and UNC - Chapel Hill. U Wisconsin - La Crosse is good, but you might attend the university but not make it into the program. U Missouri - Columbia is a good safety.

It is important for you to go through the web sites yourself. My daughter is interested in Egyptology, so those schools with a lot of Native American archaeology, only have biblical archaeology, etc. are ones she crossed off her list and so aren't among the schools I've listed. (Also schools she crossed of for other reasons ...)

If you know what area of the world interests you, you could check out who offers field schools there, what professionals are active digging there, etc.
