So, currently, I am a freshman majoring in Business Administration on a full tuition scholarship (can only be applied for business major). I took a class last semester in AE and really liked it, but because of my scholarship, I can’t switch to just engineering.
Is it possible to double major in AE and BA (workload, good use of time, etc.)? If it is, would it even be a good idea to do so (career possibilities, would they work well together, etc.)?
Completing both would be difficult for multiple reasons. You are already very likely behind on the AE sequence since as a business major you almost certainly didn’t take engineering level calculus or physics. Although some of your classes might apply as GEs to the engineering side, there’s little to no overlap otherwise. ABET accredited engineering programs are PACKED making dual majoring in anything else virtually impossible. Now, for the usefulness of such a path, it might be beneficial if you want to have your own firm. Otherwise the business half may dissuade anyone looking to employ you because they presume you’re not interested in being an engineer, but rather a manager. Most firms don’t have management with no engineering under their belts. So, all in all a tough, maybe fruitless road.
