Architecture Degree in Ohio

I guess I'm kind of confused in how long it takes to graduate with an architecture degree from the following schools :

Cincinnati
OSU
Kent
Miami

I ultimately graduate with MArch and practice as a licensed Architect

It is confusing as every program is a little different. This is what I can figure out. I welcome corrections. :)

Miami 4 year BA + a 2 year M.Arch.

Cincinnati 4 year BS + 3 year M.Arch (which includes 1 year of co-op work)

Kent State 4 year BS + 1.5 year M.Arch?
This one’s not clear to me either.

Ohio State 4 year BS + 2 year M.Arch
(The M.Arch is a three year program, but my understanding is that BS architecture students enter at year two.)

Bear in mind that if you choose to go to a different school for your M.Arch you may be looking at anywhere from 2.0 to 3.5 years.

Also, you still have to go through the licensing process after you have your M.Arch (or B.Arch) which takes about 4 years.

Cinci also has a year co-op built into the 4 year undergraduate degree - there are a couple summer semesters that make one wonder a bit. Excellent school.

Also, if you’re not planning on staying within the same architectural department for the complete MArch degree, be sure to ask very detail questions about the success rate (with SPECIFICS) of each program (over SEVERAL graduating classes) preparing undergrads for graduate schools you’re interested in.

If such data is not available from the school, some brute force Googling the alumni page would work too :).

Hi momrath,

Just saying that my ds graduated from Cincinnati (UC, Go Bearcats!) with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture after 4 years. Just before he completed his Masters Degree in Architecture at another highly regarded program 2 years, he received an offer for a position at a well-established architecture firm where he is working now. So 6 years later with both BS and MArch degrees, he’s working in the field.

UC offers a wonderful co-op program. You can either stay there for both B.S. and MArch degrees, which means 7 years. Or you can earn your B.S. at UC and go elsewhere for your MArch degree. With the education you receive at UC, depending where you go for your MArch degree, it’s possible to earn it in either 2 or 3 years.

Momof2, wonderful update on your son’s progress.
