Architecture Question

I have always wanted to be an architect, but I have recently changed my mind. I still want to desgin buildings, but I really don't want to draw and do it by hand. I would definetely do it if it was all computerized, but hand drawing is not for me (lazy when it comes to that). That is why I am more leaning towards engineering, its still designing stuff, just mostly on the computer. But so my quesiton is, is architecture mostly hand drawing or computer? How about in like 3 years, will it go more towards the computerized side of things (if it isn't now...I know technology moves fast so I am not sure). Thanks for the imput.

If you can get into architecture school, don't worry about the drawing. If they think it is a necessary skill, they will require drawing classes. The advantage to being able to draw by hand is to be able to communicate quickly to yourself and someone else. It will hinder you from being a top designer but very few get there anyway. Don't use this as an excuse not to try and be an architect. The profession requires all types of skills.

You figure a lot of things out by hand- messy sketches, concepts, stuff drawn in conversations when words won't do. However, presentation drawings are usually done by hand (or hired out to a skilled renderer), and 99.99999% of construction documents are done by hand. I wouldn't worry about it.

Larationalist, are you sure you meant to say that all construction documents are done by hand? What happened to CAD?

no, that was actually exactly the OPPOSITE of what I meant to say. I'm guilty of typing while distracted, and will go back and edit if I can.

nope, too late. Just ignore what I first typed, I have no idea where my mind was...
