I always love architecture, so I'm really sure I won't change the major. Although both schools are good at it, I have no idea how to compare them since they're in different countries. USC provides a 5-year B.Arch program, which is NAAB accredited; while McGill provides a 3-y BS.Arch program...but i'll go for master degree in any case...so, any advice? Really anxious now ><...

Btw, i’m an international student in either case.

USC only if it will absolutely guarantee you a job in your home country after graduation, and if it would be less expensive than McGill.

Canada has much friendlier immigration policies than the US, so it will be easier for you to find a job there if you decide that you would like to stay. Canada also is a bit more generous with work permits for students, so it should be easier to get a part time job if you need one.

The McGill B.Sc. in Architecture program is 3 years in length only for Quebec residents graduating from CEGEP. Otherwise a freshman year is required to make it a 4 year program. Please read the McGill website carefully to understand the program:

[Academic programs | School of Architecture - McGill University](Programs | Peter Guo-hua Fu - McGill University)

"The professional program in Architecture is divided into two parts:

•B.Sc. (Arch.): six semesters / 100 credits (minimum)
•M.Arch. (Professional) - Non-Thesis:
•Design Studio (3 consecutive semesters / 45 credits) or
•Design Studio - Directed Research (4 semesters / 60 credits)
The M.Arch. (Professional) degree is accredited by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB), and is recognized as accredited by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) in the United States."

ahh i appreciate your concern, tomofboston. Well I’m eligible to waive the first year classes with AP credits, which are just enough XD. But i’m concerned if it is harder to apply to M.Arch program in the US after i get a bs degree in Canada. Is this three-year bs program equivalent to the four-year one in the US? Just wanna know the level of mcgill compared to those of American schools.

You would have to ask the Architecture department at McGill where their graduates go. They will be able to tell you which postgraduate programs have admitted their students in recent years.

Thanks a lot! trying to contact some alumni now…
