Are absences and tardies one of the factors for admission?

I have such a bad attendance record. The rest of my years are fine, until junior year.

And I skipped school today. o_0

But i'm still a straight A student, and do a lot of extra curriculars.

Do colleges like UC's and Ivy League (small chance I'll get accepted to ivy , but i'm still applying) consider these?

I HOPE NOT D:.

Yes they are a big factor

Unless it significantly affects your grades or is commented on by your guidance counselor/teacher, or maybe, if its on your transcript, it doesn’t matter.

thank gawd…

Does your school put tardies on your transcript? My kids’ school doesn’t.

I have heard that if a student has a lot of absences and tardies ,it can be mentioned in some way Why shouldn’t it be mentioned ? It is another factor to be considered .

@fauxmaven. you’ve heard wrong.

Attendance/tardiness is important for a job, not for college applications.

Yup they put it in the transcript.

you might want to check with the college counselor at your school…different schools put different information on their transcripts.

also be aware that teachers or counselors could mention it in their LORs…they may not say that you are excessively tardy or absent specifically, but may comment on your apparent immaturity or disorganization in comparison to your peers.

…crap…LOL…

I can be mean sometimes o_0

My school puts attendance on it. I’ve never really thought about it though.

Do you guys know if… say UC San Diego cares?

(drream school^^^)

Most schools don’t care: But be sure whoever is writing your letter of recommendation isn’t concerned about it.

I’d like to look at this thread from a different angle:

Let’s say you get into one of your top schools, are you likely to continue your absentee ways? If so, you might not want to apply to a top school with a rigorous workload as missing any significant class time will make things rough for you.

Either way you need to start maturing as when you’re in college the distractions will be plentiful and the only one there to keep you on the straight-and-narrow will be YOU and only you.

Can’t imagine any college would care, unless perhaps a teacher mentions it in a LOR. I skip class sometimes. It’s not because I’m lazy or don’t care about my education, but simply because I don’t see going to class as the most efficient use of my time. If, for example, I spend a week of bio watching “Contagion” like I am right now, I see it as a better use of my time to to go to the library and study calculus. Or float the river. Or sleep.

Hasn’t hurt me so far.

um I have a reason why i’m absent actually. AP language and SAT’s are coming up, so I really want to give my time to study for them.

And basically so far my AP class is just playing a multiple choice game the whole time, and the rest of my classes aren’t teaching anything new because of finals.

Of course, I’m not absent when they give out new lessons or tests, i’m there all the way. But (cross my fingers for San Diego) of course i’m going to take college way more seriously.

hm… might skip school tom again… LOL… then i’ll go on Thursday promise xD
