Hey guys,
A lot of the colleges I am applying to have this question on the application and I was wondering how it would affect me in terms of getting admitted because my twin and I are applying to many similar colleges.
Thanks
Examples of colleges: Princeton, Cornell, Columbia, Umich, Gatech
I’ve got twins applying this year, and there is a pretty good chance they will apply to at least a couple of the same schools. I have read (and it makes sense to me) that AdComms are not going to give any special treatment to a student based on their sibling’s status, especially at very highly selective schools.
But they’re human right? They want to be aware, so they can make that connection. So maybe, at a somewhat less selective school, if one is a clear acceptance, and the other is a committee candidate, they might give the 2nd a bit of extra consideration, just so they’re sure they’re not missing anything. So, maybe instead of a waitlist, that other twin gets an acceptance too. Every situation is unique, but AdComms are real people, and no one knows what little bit of information might influence them on any particular day!
I don’t think AdComms are going to reject you because they feel sorry for not wanting to accept your twin.
I don’t think they consider “both or neither” as the only options.
Yes, they are human and may give a bit of extra consideration in some instances, but they will expect that the two of you are mature enough to understand and accept your differences, and that those differences might have implications for college acceptance.
