Are AP Exams self-reported? Can you retake them?

I’m a current student at Stanford but I never had this situation so I’m asking for my sibling.

My sibling has an AP exam on Friday but has been sick all weekend and hasn’t studied much. Should he/she still take it or just cancel the exam? I can’t remember if Stanford (and other top schools) want you to self-report AP scores. In other words, if he/she does poorly can he just not report it?
By that same notion, if he/she takes it and does poorly, can he/she retake it the year after?

I had the opportunity to see the review of my application and I remember seeing the officers note that I did really well on my AP exams and that it defintely helped, so I figure my sibling should be considerate before heading into the exam.

Do AP policies vary from Stanford to other ivies and top schools?

Thanks

@guccigirl Yes, common application allows you to self-report AP scores. But if the transcript has AP grades, but no AP scores, AO might assume that he/she did poorly with AP test.

Yes, AP can be retaken like SAT or ACT.

Thanks, he/she’ll probably take it then. He/she is only a freshman in high school and is taking it for the heck of it rather than for a class.
