I find most Asian guys to be shorter. That doesn't mean all.

And there is also my dad; pure French and 5'6"
And my two brothers; both white and at 5'8" and 5'7"

Indian people are pretty normal ...right up until they get in like their 30s

they shrink like crazy (height of course)

I find that Indian people tend to be very tall, at least the young ones.

they SHRINK?????

I'm a full Asian and 6'.

I think environment plays a big role in determining height. The stereotype that Asians are short probably stemmed from the poverty that most of my parent's generation experienced when they were kids. Constant warfare and political instability contributed to a dearth of food supplies which in turn caused malnutrition. Most Asians in our generation now tend to grow taller than their parents because they grew up in a relatively more stable society and had good nutrition as kids.

Some Asians are genetically tall though. For example: Chinese people who live in Northern China.

As a Korean-American, Korea overall has placed a HUGE emphasis on height for the past couple of years. It's really interesting, actually; even when I was in middle school, there wasn't exactly that kind of culture just yet. They have advertisements plastered everywhere about helping male children grow over 5'11" and female children over 5'7". I myself am 5'9", and when I visited Korea this past summer, I didn't feel short at all. Sure, the average height for 12th grader males in Korea is 5'8", but there are plenty of people that are shorter and plenty that are taller. I honestly think this "height frenzy" stems from the media; many of the Korean dramas and shows nowadays feature tall models as actors/actresses, which most definitely gives the illusion that "everyone is taller than I!" In my personal experience, I feel shorter in the states than I do in Korea. My younger brother, however, is already 5'6" and he's 12. It's nuts.

I'm not the least bit shocked: Koreans have a very gung-ho attitude when it comes to "Keeping up with the Jones". I think this fear of being left behind comes from the fact that historically, Korea has always been oppressed by surrounding superpowers (China, Japan, USSR), and with their recent economic fortunes, it's kind of like giving a billion dollars to a homeless guy: he kind of doesn't know how to restrain himself.

Hah. Can't beat them? Get taller than them and get all the hot ladies.

Korea's got the right idea.

my dad's a twin..so he's 5'7....my moms 5'4 at best....but im 6'1 225 haha....and play football and lacrosse....ne football/lacrosse/hockey players in the house?

i think it varies.. some of my asian guy friends are around my height 5'6", and then there are some that are a lot taller.. or ones that started off short but then had a huge growth spurt lol

it seems like i am the tallest asian guy here, i am 6'4 and i am taller than almost all of my white friends

more precisely, i am reaching 6'5, but sadly, i suck at basketball

this thread is hilarious.

all the pple in korea these days are facking tall. specially the young'ns

really? im gonna go back after i graduate from high school :p

when i went after the summer of 7th grade, i was like already pretty damn tall

but ive grown...quite a bit since then :p

5'11

i'm 5'7 asian 190 pounds
ill kill you..

I haven't seen too many short asians. Most were tall or average in height. There was one guy that I met who must have been 4'11-5. He was very short. I am 5'7 so I towered over him...

aw. why is "tall" a good character?

^^

It's one of those "genetically superior" features.

For example -

Do you expect more or less from a very short person?

How intimidating is a very short person?

How admirable/respectable is a very short person?

How attractive is a very short male?

As you can see, being short has quite a few disadavantages for the male. Statistically, shorter people are paid less in equal settings compared to their taller brethen. Height gives a natural sense of power and confidence.

However, studies have also shown that men prefer proportionally shorter women. Both men and women expect shorter women to be kinder and gentler, both positive traits for a female.
