As a 6 foot Asian male, this has always been a curiosity for me. Most of my male Asian friends(Indian, Chinese, Korean, etc.) are about 5''6ish, however, my white male friends usually range from 5''10 to about 6 feet. Are you CC peeps aware of a scientific study or something that would validate my experiences??? Maybe my findings are a mere anomaly haha...:p

I dunno. I'm 5'11" and most of my Asian friends are around 5'7" or so. I wouldn't really consider 5'7" short, especially for high schoolers.

I have an explanation: look back to your vegan thread. It's because of rice substitution for meat.

I'm 6 foot 1 inch tall.

actually I was under the impression that American Asians are shorter primarily because of the region from which most asian immigrants came to the US from. If that's true, it's genetics not what you eat that matters.

5'7" asian here. I wouldn't really know about other local asians, considering I'm practically the only asian in my school.

I'm 5'11 and like JimmyEAtworld most of my asian male friends are like 5'7.
I have one asian friend who's like 5'4 and I would consider that short.

Most of my Asian friends are shorter than my white friends. I don't know why, though.

gatordan, excellent point. But perhaps height is influenced by a mixture of the two.

People who think Asians are all short obviously haven't travelled in East Asia much.

Diet, folks.

=] No Asian Guys are not usually short! ><; It does not have to do with Rice! >/ ^_^ You guys need to go to Asian countries! :] Hehehe!

im white and im 5'5" heh

great punkiie, now what do I blame for being a short asian?

o.o You're a short Asian?

I'm almost 5'5, and am expected to max out at 5'7. This seems about right since my family is about 5'5 to 5'7.

I think it's a combination of genes and diet. Though under Communist China (rationed foods!), my dad got to 5'10" so I dunno.

My brother is 4'11". Now that is what I call short.

OK, asian people in general definitely are shorter, and some people (Scandanavians, for example) are taller. Genetics, I think. But it's not that big of a difference.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Average_height gives numbers.

The average white American male/female is about 5'10"/5'5", while the average man/woman from China (as an example) are 5'7"/5'2".

My family members are quite tall; all my uncles and cousins are well over 5'9 which I consider is a good height for a guy. But...due to some unknown reason, the highschool asian guys I know tend to be considerably shorter. A guy I was hanging out this summer was 5'4 and some of my friends are around 5'7. Maybe it has to do with genetics as well as...they are not all grown up yet.

I'm 5"11 and am taller than both my dad (5'9") and my mom (5'6 or so). Anybody else similar?
