Are chance of being accepted ED better with Undecided or with a major?

Elon is my daughter's first choice. She will be applying to Elon Early Decision since they accept a greater percentage of these applicants. Her test scores are not the best (SAT of 1510, ACT of 24). She is just not a great standardized test taker but has a good GPA 3.83 and quite a few extra curricular activities and heavy on the volunteer services. Should she apply as Undecided or state an intended major? Are her chances of getting in better as undecided?
Please help!!!

My daughter had a very similar profile to yours, and was admitted ED. I don’t know the system well enough to answer your question about declaring a major, but I can tell you that it really helped to show interest, get to know her local admissions rep and to visit campus. She also had a good essay that highlighted her commitment and love for her volunteer work. I would see if she’s willing to retake her tests: Elon superscores so if she can bump up even one section it will help. We asked the teachers writing recommendation letters to comment on her engaged learning style to help them see why she would be a good fit for Elon.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. She will be taking her ACTs for the 3rd time in Sept & SATs for the 4th time in Oct. Wasted $ on SAT prep, did not help at all.
We just returned form a visit and met with an admissions counselor for a few minutes. I had her send Thank You notes to all who we encountered on our trip. I will definitely have her highlight her volunteer work and also have her Guidance Counselor include comment on the engaged learning style at her high school and how she would fit well with Elon.
Can’t wait for this entire process to be over. As I am sure you know it is extremely stressful on all of us!!!

Sounds like you are doing all the right things. And yes, it’s very stressful. Kind of fun and exciting too though. Good luck!

Major does not matter for admissions at Elon at this juncture…
