Are conservatories concerned with grades?

Now that most acceptances are in I wanted to bring up this thread. Can the outcomes of this year’s theater class give us insight into the question posed by the OP. Are conservatories concerned with grades?

Do you think your kids grades and SAT/ACT scores mattered for stand-alone performing art conservatories?

Did you find that grades and SAT/ACT scores mattered more for conservatories within traditional college settings?

Did you find that your results fit your academic stats?

Did you have any surprises?

I can speak to BU. Admissions contacted me twice for information regarding my daughter’s mid year grades. Her ACT was a 26 (she only had time to take it once)… so based on what Paolo told us only the kids who made it through the audition were put to academic admissions… since she wasn’t accepted to BU, I’d have to say it was a big part of the process for her. Her GPA unweighted is about a 3.65… so in BU’s case it seems very important.

Sorry for the BU news, but that’s very nice that she knows she passed the audition piece!

At Michigan they seem to do things in the opposite fashion to BU. There, my D received an email telling her she had passed the academic prescreen and was therefore allowed to set up her audition.

Thanks all for responding.

researchmaven does Michigan also do an audition pre-screen? And if so is that also after the academic admit?

sha-There was no audition prescreen for Acting this year, only an audition prescreen for MT. My D applied for acting.

Research, I must have read something about that on the MT board. Thanks
