Are depression, ADHD, bipolar, etc., real?

<p>I think my ADHD, OCD son who spends 6 hours a night on homework to keep up would say so...</p>

<p>pmrlcom: Lord, how I remember those days! Looking back, I was one of the ONLY people complaining about how first graders had SO much homework an how it was SO hard for my son to get it done. Only took me 8 more years to get the diagnosis, partly because so many people-including educators, do not believe these LD's are real. Well, they sure are! Good luck with your son. I don't know how old he is, but I have to say that both of my kids are happier in college because the daily homework is not as overwhelming. Still takes a long time to write those research papers, though! Ugh!</p>

<p>Yes, mental ailments are real. At their worst, you can really see the harsh reality. It makes sense that there are shades of the maladies. The problem is diagnosing mental ailments because most of the info has to come from the person afflicted who may be less than truthful or forthcoming.</p>
