Are domestic applicants and international applicants considered differently?

Hi CC members
I know that my discussion title is a bit confusing, so I will try to clear this up.
I hold US citizenship and South Korea citizenship and I am living in Korea right now.
And my question is will I compete with domestic applicants who are living in/out of the US
OR will I compete with international applicants who are living in the same area?
Thanks

You’d be evaluated as a US citizen living abroad – but overall, you’d be evaluated among the US applicants.

This may vary a bit by university, and a part of this is semantics. Most likely you will be viewed as a US citizen living abroad and you will compete with the pool of US applicants, but you may be evaluated by an AO specializing in international.

Your high school records will need to be evaluated in comparison to those of students who attended similar schools. For example, if you are at a Korean high school then the admissions officer who is familiar with Korean school records will be the one who will evaluate yours.

If you have any questions about how a specific college or university will handle your application, it is perfectly OK to send them an email, let them know that you are a US citizen abroad, and to ask how they handle applications from students like you.

Thank you all!
