Are engineering students missing something?

Actually, that raises another question. Should the electives be taken for credit, pass/fail, or audited? Will anybody frown on auditing a course that is not in the major?

also, I guess if the school is on the quarter system, one could claim to take "several" classes...which would be twice as many as you could take on a semester system.

I would actually suggest taking the liberal arts courses for graded credit - it'll help your GPA.

I took some 14 courses outside of my requirements - which ended up being about six classes per semester. AP credit did help out - as did two summer classes (two). Still, one extra course per semester will get you there.

My school didn't limit the number of courses you took - you just had to get permission to take more than 6 credits (generally, one class = 1 credit).

OK, I went back and looked because just from looking at my transcript and evaluating my sanity, I honestly have no idea how I did it.

And I went to Rice, in case anyone's curious. No quarter-long courses. No summer school. 29 hours of AP credit, though, since Rice is exceedingly generous with allowing AP credits to count. That definitely facilitated my being able to take so many classes, though 11 hours of that were non-engineering APs.

WOW! What a really ambitious schedule! I'm sure it was a great experience to sample so many departments.
