Are fraternity dues added onto the room and board fees that you pay the school?

When you join a fraternity, do you pay the dues on top of the room and board fees? For example, if the room and board at my future school is approximately $9000 and my fraternity dues are $3000, would I have to pay $12000 or just $3000?

Given that most students don’t join fraternities or sororities, it seems plausible to assume that these dues wouldn’t be included in room and board fees. The room and board costs at a school typically include the costs for a shared dorm room with a somewhat middle of the road meal plan. Single rooms and larger meal plans typically add to this expense.

Fraternity dues are added onto room and board. However, if you choose to live in a fraternity house as an upperclassman, you won’t have to pay university room and board.

There’s a reason why members of greek life are generally wealthier than the overall student body.

If you’re living in a dorm, then dues are on top of room and board. If you’re living in the fraternity house, dues may or may not include room and board depending on the house/org. Some houses even have chefs so dues can potentially include meals.
