She might not get accepted anyway. Some colleges with such a disparity are making it harder for girls to get in.

Besides tech/engineering, biz schools also favor xx chromosomes.

Mary13, my daughter is in the same boat. She likes Loyola a lot but when she found out it was a 70/30 split with many of the 30 percent males being gay, she started looking closer at UW Madison, the only school she been accepted to so far with a close to 50/50 split. We were disappointed in the amount of merit aid she received from Loyola as both H and I are alumni and D has great stats. She hasn’t completely ruled Loyola out but that ratio is going to be hard to overcome.

We have removed all schools having greater than a 60/40 split off our list. I personally think that it cultivates a “mean girl” environment if there are so few eligible guys to date. JMO

I do think it’s true that girls get into MIT with lower stats, however, in the case of MIT I think it’s fair because they actually did the follow up and found that on average those lower stat young women were out performing men.

interesting thread.

gsmomma, I’m passing on your info about the 70/30 male to female ratio being brought down by all the guys staying in their rooms playing video games. Cracked me up. She’s looking at one engine school in particular that’s heavily weighted to males so maybe that gets it closer to 60/40 :)
