Are GPAs of 4.0 becoming commonplace?

My school has grade inflation intentionally built into the system–at the end of the semester, 3 points are added to the grade in honors classes and 5 for AP, and then that number is converted into a letter (on two different scales for UW and W!!! UW: 93=A, W: 91=A.), and then the letter (by the weighted system) shows up on the transcript. So, you can have all As on your transcript, but an unweighted GPA as low as 3. (Side note–because of the added points, my lowest grade for second semester junior year was a 98.)

It’s a disaster!
