Please stop with the “lower Ivies” nonsense. They are eight very different schools. All superb. Getting into any one of the eight is an achievement in which any student can take pride. NO ONE who has actually attended one of these schools talks about “lower” vs “upper” Ivies. This is CC nonsense coming from persons who have never attended any Ivy. As one who has attended an Ivy I can attest that, until I came to CC, I NEVER EVER heard anyone “tier” them like this. Just ridiculous!

Whether they are overrated or not…The US has many many phenomenal colleges and universities and, again, until I came to CC I never encountered so much silly “Ivy mania.” Certainly on CC the schools are overrated.

collegemom,

You’re right, my post was very sloppy. I wasn’t actually trying to imply it’s inferior (hence the quotes), but the fact is it’s obviously not viewed equally (even if it is just because it’s different and not because it is better or worse).

I would advise anyone pursuing medicine in the US against going abroad for school (Canada not counted as abroad) regardless of how prestigious the school abroad actually is. That’s really the point I was trying to convey - just trying to frame it in the context of the discussion at hand and failed.

agree totally, Brown- and ditto for law.

Harvard seems to be holding its own against the other “leagues” in March Madness. :)

The Ivies are not overrated. In fact, I would argue that the Ivies are underrated. They are under-priced for the prestige they offer (which is actually priceless).

@chicagob0und Spoken like someone who badly needs to experience the real world.

Any school is overrated if it does not set your needs and goals; ivys are no exception.
