so i was thinking about what i want from college and i realized that after 4 years of my hs i tend towards being kind of grade conscious/ concerned what everyone thinks of me and other wise neurotic (though im not 'on the inside'). I really want to/have to get over this long island influence and i was wondering if Middlebury would be a good place to get over all that.

I am going to be a first-year. I picked Middlebury because of how relaxed the campus felt on my preview days. It was almost midterms and yet everyone seemed somewhat relaxed about how things were going - they still were definitely working long hours, but all of them seemed to know that they were doing it all ultimately to learn. It was a great atmosphere to be in, and I was only there a couple of days.

i definitely agree. although most of the people study a lot, competition and ambitions is definitely not on the surface nor does it affect your relationship with friends. i don't know the grades of many of my friends because we just never ask to each other. my high school was crazy in terms of grades--and i cannot tell you how relieved i am to be in midd in terms of grades.
