I was accepted under Early Action, and invited to the Echols Honors program, so I assume I was not a borderline applicant. However, my first semester senior year grades are not good. I basically went from an A-average to a B-average.
So my question is, do we have to send the midyear report even if we've already been accepted?
Thank you!

Yes you do, but since you’ve been accepted already I don’t think that lower average will matter much if at all.

UVA does rescind admissions as far as I am aware, all final grades are required, but you would need to drop from A to C/D/F is my guess. C/D might even just get a warning. Make sure you bring them back up or at least keep them at B’s. It is disrespectful to all of the people still working hard who were not offered admission for you to stop trying altogether. Getting B’s in hard classes is OK.

Also I just wanted to add that everyone accepted to UVA is stellar academically so it will be a rough transition if you do not put your all into your classes once you come here. If you put in B work (your high school equivalent), you are going to end up with C’s or worse at UVA. Don’t get into that mindset.

You were accepted with the understanding that you finish the year in a manner similar to the transcript that was submitted. It doesn’t sound like you dropped from As to a few Bs. If you have slipped from As to a B average in one semester we are talking about grades lower then Bs (?). If this is the case, it is something that you are going to want to discuss with your GC and see if it’s a drop that warrants contacting admissions. You want to contact them before they contact you. They are going to want to know an honest account of why your grades dropped, your plan for success during the second semester, and how you plan to manage the demanding work you should expect at UVa. This doesn’t mean you’re going to get your admission revoked, but significant drops in performance needs to be addressed.

Thank you guys for your advice!
@blueiguana: i had straight A’s before and now have half A’s and half B’s. I thought that meant a B average, but guess not.
I would do everything I can to keep my acceptance, and of course improve my performance, so it’s really good to know I probably won’t get thrown out!

Just a slight slump then. It’s good that you recognize you need to keep your grades up, but nothing to get terribly excited about. Try your best to stay focused second semester.

Congratulations on your acceptance and Echols designation. I’m sure you’ll do fine. :)

Thank you blueiguana! :)
