which comes to a 3.29 GPA freshman year in 32 hours. Are my chances down the drain?

Not an ideal start, but not a fatal one either. Definitely too soon to throw in the towel.

You need to identify why you are struggling in your engineering/science/math classes and fix the problem. Learn to study better, not study harder. Learn to utilize the resources you have available to you: office hours, tutoring center, study groups, academic support center.

I recommend you plan on delaying your med school applications until after your graduation. This will give an additional 2 semesters to improve your GPA.

I also recommend you don’t rule out osteopathic medical schools in your future.

Also since your worst grades appear to be in your engineering coursework, think carefully about whether engineering is the right major for you. It may be you’ll have to make a hard choice between pursuing an engineering degree and optimizing your chances for med school. There is no right choice–only the one that’s right for you.

Have you been through the weed out classes? I am not sure chem 1&2 are Org Chem, but in most cases a Pre-med program weed out the students in Bio and Org.

If you have not been through the weed out classes, be VERY careful about the grades, if you get C in all 4 (2 bio and 2 org) the party is over.
