I heard that there are MA programs that are worth going. I guess that means that there are MA programs that aren't worth going.

Would you say that for humanities, it is only worth going into MA or PhD to prestigious universities?

Is it possible to go to prestigious PhD from a not prestigious MA?

I did see someone who goes to a Ivy League PhD when he came from a not very known state university.

Does it help a lot if, in the non-prestigious university, you are guided by a professor who has a PhD from a top PhD program?

Is it possible? Of course it is, for the same reasons it is in ugrad. If you go and do good research/scholarship and get the appropriate mentorship you can make the leap.

Is it not worth it to go to a lower-ranked MA? It depends on your goals and the program itself. Instead of looking at prestige/rank, look at the program itself. Does it do what you want it to do? Are there professors doing work in your area of interests? Can you take the classes you need and want for doctoral preparation? Talk to some professors. Ask them where their graduates typically end up.

Does it help if you are advised by a professor who studied at a top program? Yes.
