i dont think any of the requirements have to be done before submitting app (technically). I know for certain a friend of mine who went to UCSF who didnt take biochem until senior spring after she had been accepted.

There’s a place on the AMCAS for planned coursework. The applicant should list when and where the applicant plans to take any missing required classes. Then update admissions when the classes has been completed.

D1 applied with 1 OChem lab missing and didn’t have any issues about it not being already done at the time of application.

Ace–technically all admission decisions are conditional until the applicant sends in a final transcript showing both a baccalaurate has been satisfactorily completed and all pre-reqs have been completed.

Admission can be revoked at any time if the the missing pre-reqs grades come in and aren’t satisfactory.

Along those lines, say the prereqs are completed but say a minor or second major isn’t finished as planned. Are those planned courses binding at that point or are simply prereqs and a degree required?

If you list the coursework on your AMCAS application as “pending” but decide not to pursue it and completely change your senior year coursework, you probably ought to include that in an update letter to the schools.

An update isn’t mandatory, but it could prevent embarrassing questions popping up during the interview. (“So, how are you enjoying your senior French lit classes? I especially liked ______ when I took French lit when I was undergrad.”)

Our state school does not have such high standard. DS1 skipped the basic writing course based upon his SAT score. However, he did not get the credit. He is taking the intensive writing course and really enjoys it. The course is mainly on human literature and is likely to improve his non-science reading further. He will take the professional writing course offered by the Department of English next year before he writes his personal statement.

"Should all these be completed before submitting the application? "
-Definitely not based on D’s experience…unless thing change over time and it might be different from school to school. However, the rule 2 years ago was completion before starting of school. In addition, be alert to the fact that Med. School might change requirements AFTER you apply. Despite the fact that you have applied, you still absolutely obligated to complete ALL requirements, including the new ones. That is where good pre-med advising at your UG will be very handy. D’s advisor alerted her to the fact that it indeed happened at one of the Med. Schools that D. has applied. The school added 2 more classes. Advisor also was instrumental in helping D. to change her fall resistration as she has already registered for the fall classes.
