Are the Professors at Miami University helpful?

Are the professors at Miami University helpful, do they get to know your name, is it hard to meet with them when you need help, etc...?

Also are a lot of the classes taught by Teaching Assistants?

D had only one class in four years that was ~100 students (first semester of freshman year.) The class met 3 times a week with one time being a small group lab. The lab used a TA, but the class lecture was the professor. That professor did not know her name, but the TA did. She stated that other students may have had more larger classes but, with her specific major, minor and honors classes, the classes were small and the professors would all know her name. Professors all have office hours and welcome students with their questions and concerns.

For a personal story I can say that when D was a freshman, H and I were out to dinner with D and a professor saw us with her. The professor came to the table to tell us how much she enjoyed having D in her class and to thank us for sending her to Miami! She stayed at the table chatting with us and then D for a few minutes.

The president of the university is also quite visible around campus. He is a member of a broomball team and plays against students. After graduation he has an open house reception at his house for anyone who wants to come. He spends time with each student to congratulate them personally and ask about future plans. Not everyone attends the reception, but I would guess a thousand or so pass through in those few hours.

We often have described Miami as feeling like a small LAC, but having all the benefits of a major university.

D. did not have a singel lecture given by TA.
Profs are very helpful, they have offcie hours. There are much less students in Honors classes. Some classes are very small by the nature of the class (as example, some classes in D’s Music minor had around 7 students).
Miami focus is an Undergraduate education. The UGs have great opportunities obtaining Research internships and other positions that are mostly available to graduate students at other places.
