are the rumors true

It may be a childish question but ill ask anyways. Is it true that the students at Swarthmore are absolutely swamped with work. If this is true, is the style of work somewhat enjoyable

It varies from student to student. But, my daughter claims that she works hard. She has plenty of fun, but has to manage her schedule and keep to a regular routine of keeping up with her reading and other work. I would say that Swarthmore is probably a poor choice of school for a slacker. As she describes it, she and her friends go the library and study together, so studying is not anti-social.

I think she would rate her classes, reading, and the overall academic experience considerably higher than "somewhat enjoyable". I think she would say that "somewhat enjoyable" would probably be a fair description for the worst courses she has taken at Swarthmore. She usually has one or two courses a semester that rank a solid, "I LOVE that course!"

I'm in six clubs (officer in five), including the daily newspaper (daily.swarthmore.edu :D), and taking a full course load. And I'm an honors major.

So, while I'm not a natural science or engin major, I'm doing quite a bit at Swarthmore. I don't feel like I'm swamped the vast majority of the time.

I've had one bad course at Swarthmore—and a lot of really astounding ones. So yea, I generally end up enjoying my work.

Honestly, I love most of the readings or other work I have to do...of course, I'm just a freshman, so I won't have the courseload of upperclassmen, but if it keeps building at a steady pace, I'm positive I'll be able to keep up with it - as long as it continues to be interesting, I have no problem doing the work. It's really quite amazing how motivated to work you can be if you enjoy what your assignment is!
