Hi I'm looking at cu boulder and I really liked the campus but I'm afraid that weed will be too prevalent on campus. Don't get me wrong I'm fine with lots of drinking and partying but for me the weed smoking is a little much, I don't want to be surrounded by lazy students who don't care about school and just want to smoke weed. Am I stereotyping or am is this a legitimate concern?

You should be fine. Honestly, the vast majority of people who smoke weed in college limit it to the weekends and/or times when they don’t have much work to do. If you were to eliminate colleges where a significant percentage of the student body smoked, you’d probably eliminate half the schools in the West lol.

Just because someone smokes weed doesn’t mean they don’t care about school. If they didn’t care they wouldn’t be there for long. It’s the same as alcohol, it’s all about moderation. In fact I’d prefer if someone smoked a lot than drank a lot.

Some of the smartest people I know have smoked or smoke occasionally. Some of the laziest do as well. It doesn’t define you as a person.

That said at CU you’ll find a lot of people who smoke but good people won’t mind if you don’t, so don’t worry.

…
It is legal in the state, so I would imagine that plenty of people smoke weed.

But you certainly wouldn’t have to, at any school there are lots of different people with different views of what would be fun.

Pot smokers won’t impinge on your life nearly as much as the drinkers will–which group tends to get more loud/rambunctious/obnoxious? Which group tends to puke all over the bathrooms and hallways?

CU is a very large school, there will be plenty of students of all types with all levels of motivation. You will find your tribe.
