Fordham Honors program is well thought of. Which Fordham campus did he apply for (the main one in the Bronx or the other?). One thing I do remember about Fordham was that they reduce any other outside scholarships received by at least 1/2 because of the NMF scholarship. Not sure if they still do or if it matters, but you might want to check this there as well as at the others…and of course evaluate what he must do to KEEP the scholarships (for instance, is participation is Honors required? Is service required? Is there a GPA requirement?).
He has great choices. Congratulations to him as well as to you!
In the urban Northeast, Drexel also gives big money for National Merit.
UMinny is also in a big city and with their rather cheap OOS costs as well as National Merit scholarship, it may actually be as cheap or cheaper than in-state.
I don’t think American has automatic scholarships, but I would be shocked if they don’t give him a decent amount.
Same with Catholic, which is also in DC.
OK, I posted that without reading ahead, but the Drexel and UMinny info may still be helpful to others.
Fordham sounds like a good deal, but so does UT-Austin.
Those are the 2 cheapest?
I am not sure but I heard that Drexel was/had ended the NMF program.
With Fordham, the Bronx campus is in a rough area but is a beautiful enclosed campus. The full tuition is a wonderful deal. For us, however, it still ended up being about 20k per year because room and board are very high (compared to our state schools and other offers at privates) and because of general spending money for D in NYC, travel cost to and from NYC as well as the cost for us to stay there, even if only 2 times a year at move in/out, to see D. Still, a very good deal but those were the other costs we calculated after they generously provided full tuition.
I too am anxious to see what your son chose, @txstella!
Drexel dropped its NMF scholarship in late October. Fordham’s full-tuition NMF scholarship is not guaranteed. It is competitive and school does not say how many can get it. Many NMFs do not.
