I picked out my senior year classes a few months ago and today I found out that I would have to change them around a bit because of scheduling conflicts My original senior schedule was:
AP European History
Honors Latin 4
AP Psychology
AP US Government and Politics
AP English Literature
AP Statistics
Dual Enrollment Environmental Science
and a Dual Enrollment film class.
Now, after changing it, my schedule is:
AP European History
Honors Latin 4
AP Psychology
AP US Government and Politics
AP English Literature
Honors Statistics
Honors Sociology
Are these classes “good”? Will they look challenging enough on my transcript to selective colleges? Are there any ways to improve my senior year schedule so it may be more attractive to selective colleges? Are there classes that weren’t even on my original schedule that I should consider taking? I’m applying to Harvard and Dartmouth as reaches, so what do you think those schools would think of these classes?
Short Answer: Yes, it seems rigorous.
Although H Statistics may be frowned upon because even AP Stat is “AP-lite”. Why not take Calc?
If you have not done Calculus you should. AP Stats is not that difficult. My D took AP Calc BC and AP Stats this year and she said that the Stats was bascially busy work
What’s the problem with dual-enrolling?
Its hard to say whether the choices you made because of your schedule conflicts were the right ones as you did not say what your intended college major in.
You obviously has a lot of hard classes that will look good for hard schools
4/7 of your classes are social studies, one is English, and one is a foreign language. You only have one math class and it is not rigorous. No science classes. You definitely need a science class and maybe AP Statistics and/or AP Calculus. This schedule looks somewhat rigorous, but not well-rounded.
I’d also consider AP Latin instead of Honors Latin 4, at least, that’s what my son’s doing based on his teacher’s recommendation. And yes, I agree that there should be another science or math class in that line-up. AP Stat is pretty easy.
They are amazing, it’s all AP and honors, no standards, so you have a pretty good chance in getting to any college as long as you receive A in all of these rigorous classes.
