are you afraid of going to MIT

cool, that saves me a little bit. anybody know the range of the average GPA and the range of the standard deviation of the GPA for some past senior classes?

so, MIT doesn't count the classes you take during the first semester of your freshmen year into the GPA, right?

I don't know of any statistics which are collected anywhere on average GPAs of the entire senior class. Or of the entire school.

And no, the classes you take first semester freshman year are not included in your overall GPA.

does the research's "easy A" count in your overall GPA? is there any mid-term or final if you do research counted as credits?

All the courses you take on grades are counted in your overall GPA.

To take a UROP for credit, you just have to submit some paperwork -- a 1-2 page proposal with a coversheet.

I don't know, my biggest fear is whether or not I'll be able to manage my time. I'm looking forward to going to class with smart people, even if it means that lots of them are WAY smarter than me. But I kind of have this aversion to work...

You'll figure it out. I promise. :)

Everybody comes in sucking at time managment, because high school was easy for everybody. But that's why first term is pass-no record.

molliebatmit, I notice that you are a cheerleader, you are a MIT blogger, you are a student with double majors, you spend around 15 hours doing research per week, you answer our questions on CC like at least 10 times per day, yet you are also dating your boyfriend.

my question is: how come you have so much time to do all these things and still maintain a 4.51 GPA?

when do you go to bed? when do you wake up? how many hours (besides classroom time) do you actually study per day or per week?

My boyfriend says "Because she's superhuman."

I don't really know the answer to that, other than the fact that I've developed ninja time management skills during my four years here. I actually get better grades in terms when I'm taking more units, which I think is because I have to make plans and schedule my time more carefully than I would otherwise.

My [url=http://web.mit.edu/mollieb/Public/Sleep%20Statistics.pdf]sleep statistics/url show that I've been sleeping more as I get older -- I got an average of 6.16 hours of sleep a night when I was a freshman, but I get an average of 7.43 hours as a senior.

How much time I spend out of class has varied quite a bit from term to term for me; last spring, when I was taking 75 units, I was doing something like 15-20 hours of homework per week. This semester, I'm only taking 36 units, and I'm doing something like 1.5-2 hours of homework per week.

I get like 10 or 11 hours of sleep a night. :) I hax at life

River Phoenix, are you getting the grades you want?

Yeah, I have a good GPA, I just find its easier to skip class and learn by doing the problem sets.

Mollie is an android. Can you imagine if she were real? How could any human ever compare? But MIT will be issuing copies shortly and if you attend, the lastest design will be there waiting to guide you through that Earthly Paradise. They even constructed a 'boyfriend' and had the wit to name him, get this, Adam!

"Yeah, I have a good GPA, I just find its easier to skip class and learn by doing the problem sets."

Don't mind to tell me your GPA? What do you plan to do after graduating from MIT?

Will professors mark you absent if you are not in the class? Will the school expel you if you have unexcused absences for so many times?

This is college. You don't have to go to class if you don't want to.

Some HASS classes have an attendance/participation grade, but very few other classes even take attendance.

actually, i think those who skip classes are wasting their $$$$$$$$ !!!!! Look, the cost of MIT tuition is like $33,000! Why would you don't want to go to class (with all these super excellent professors there)?

Some people don't go to class. It's usually because the class is easy or the lecturer is awful. Or it's just too early in the morning =

Some ppl function better not going to class. If that works for you, cool. I don't think I would do it at MIT....although I've done it in high school. I think I actually learn more when I don't go to class at my high school...how sad.

Yup, people learn in different ways.

Personally, I have to go to lecture to learn anything, but I won't ever go to recitation. Other people can learn just as well by reading the book or doing the problem sets.

Different strokes for different folks.

What is recitation?

"Recitation" is a fancy word for "discussion section".
