The letter stated that we were still being considered for acceptance just not for the Pres/Trustee scholarship. We're still open to the other scholarships though.

I wouldn't be able to live in a dorm because I don't live that far from 'SC and dorming at 'SC is too expensive on top of everything else. I will be a freshman next year. Yep, USF. I can still count on that school seeing that I was accepted, but UCB's a whole 'nother decision that takes a longer time to wait for and a harder gamble to pull off.

a letter requesting midyear grades came today and it said that they have completed a preliminary review of my application file and are writing to request further information.

now is this good or bad? i mean if i was that horrible they woulda probably rejected me, right? PLEASE HELP!

It probably means that you are on the cusp of getting in (or not) and they need more information to make an informed decision. If you did better on your mid-year grade, you have a better chance of getting in. If you did worse, you probably won't get in.

I received a Presidential/Trustee scholarship rejection letter today. It also stated that "we have no yet reahed a decision on your application; you are still being considered for admission to USC". Needless to say, I'm a bit angry; My stats are comparable to many on CC who have already gotten admitted in the 2nd wave. Not reached a decision my ass. It also asked me to submit my mid year grades.

Well room/board at USF is no bargain at USF either. :p

I figure the cost differential between USF and USC is more than made up for by the added prestige of a USC degree.

I don't know but I just did it online anyways. My grades are still pretty much the same so I have nothing to lose or gain.

"Well room/board at USF is no bargain at USF either. "
Not if you received a scholarship that could cover about half of the costs. I'm still mentally debating what my final choice will be. I know USF's not exactly the best, but I need to be in San Fran because that is where I see my future.

Some schools are going to be very fortunate to have all of these very qualified students. I know how hard all of you have worked to have positioned yourselves so well.

Have you ever read the kids' book Put Me in the Zoo? Find it, read it. Quite an analogy for the college entrance process. Gave me a chuckle (almost) today.

argh, i got the same letter annn did... and i have pretty decent stats. why didn't we get either? i mean, i know they're selective, but there's basically zero chance of me going to usc without major merit scholarships.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you aren't entitled to anything...

If you were counting on academic scholarship I hope you have apps in at other schools you really like. There are no guarantees regardless of stats.

My son just received one accept and $$ where he would really enjoy going so I guess the pressure is off for him on USC, #5 pick, but for the rest hang in there it is early yet.

I didn't get presdential or trustee (it's understandable, I don't have high test scores), but the letter did say that I was still elgible for other scholarships, so hopefully I'll get a Dean's or another one. On the bright side, the same day that I received that USC letter, I received a scholarship from Rice, so things do work out for the best.
