Actually, the opposite.
My school is an all-girls, private Catholic high school that is pretty selective, so basically everyone in my entire class (130 girls) is really smart. I’m actually amazed at what my classmates manage. So many people have >4.0 GPA’s and on top of that play extremely demanding sports. I honestly do not know how they do it all. Before high school, I was THE smartest in all my classes, had the highest grades, and I really was shocked sometimes by how little some people cared about school. But now, I’m average/above average at my school. I am taking the hardest sophomore course load possible, and only one other girl is also taking the same schedule as me, but my class in general is super smart. I don’t think I would be as motivated as I am if I had gone to public school or just a regular private school, so I’m really grateful for the opportunity to attend the school that I go to.
