Are you on a school council?

If so, which one(s)? Just curious :) Also, how much does it help when getting into places like Ivy's or Stanford in particular? For instance, does it really help tons when you become student council president? Etc. etc. :)

Yes, it's the most important club. SGA and NHS don't even par School Advisory Council. It's called Principal's Advisory Council at my school, but SAC and PAC are the same thing... with teachers students community members

Some student on Dateline applied to Harvard, and one of his two clubs was PAC...

It's almost vital for an Ivy. Also, you get a good recommendation from your Principal, which is VERY important.

So, in short, SAC/PAC is super important.

I like to call SAC/PAC the "millionaire's club" because you are on it for your 4 year HS career.

GK- you should do things because you want to, not because they MIGHT get you into an IVY.

PS_ SAC or PAC maybe big at some school, but non existant at others...

Its just one club, it will not make or break an application

It's not a club, it's a committee with the principal and top administration officials earning 6 figure incomes... it's super important because you are meeting the most important people... not the teachers.

oops... you mean student council?

eh... it's OK, but advisory council is a lot better. you don't do anything in SGA or "Student Council.

our Stu-Co is just a popularity contest that gets to plan dances. Not exactly an honor to be on. They never do any real work.

yup... i've been president all four years in sga... it's no biggy.

i am running unopposed cause im too damn popular, so my speech was:

I DON'T HAVE MUCH TO SAY BUT IF I WIN ALL YOUR WILDEST DREAMS WILL COME TRUE

In my school we have a senate. Whoever wishes to can run. They need to get signatures and afterwords, they give a speech to their grade and everyone votes. Four senators are chosen from each grade. I was lucky enough to be elected one of the senators this year and i am extremely happy. Hopefully some of the bills i support will go through.

Any student govenment is a good thing if you are interested in it, or at the very least, have something to offer. If you do it just for college, everyone can tell and won't vote for you. Even if you do get elected though, if you do not genuinely care, it will be a waste of your time. Furthermore, it is not right to take a spot from people that actually care.

yea, I agree.

but... there are more important things thsn sga for a college app. i did it not for college, but because of the rush I get when I speak in front of my fellow class mates. i like being in the power spectrum, which is why Ivy is important. lots of Ivy.

anyway... there are ppl in my school who don't do sga and get into top colleges like stanford and vanderbilt.

"] Planning to be the treasurer when I'm a senior. xD

We don't even have that SAC/PAC thing, all we have is SGA, Letterwomen/men which are basically the most honoring positions that you can get, small school only about 10 clubs and only 400 people in our school

lol...I wish I lived somewhere where that kind of thing actually meant something. Here, student council and various other leadership positions involve being a complete tool and/or hobag. It's just a popularity contest here, and many other places, probably.
