If yes, what are you going to do there with whatever you studied in the U.S.? Is what you intend to study based at all on its usefulness back home?

probably yes. there is so much to change in poland, and in u.s. it’s only making money an prestige…

and i think i couldn’t live in american culture.

my major choice was based only on my interests, though.

yes
look for a job
no

for sure

look for a job

partially yes

i want to do my pg also in US… but yeah… once i finish tat i wanna go back to my country… need to do loads for my country

Yeah well we all want to ‘make a difference’ and change the world and make it a better place blah blah blah when we’re 17. I doubt that we’ll have the same aspirations at the age of say 40 lol. However I’m not saying we should give up the idea.

I’m not sure at the moment. How can I know if I decide to stay when I’ve never even been to the US?! My parents are obsessed with the idea of making me stay. I don’t know though, it’ll be up to me after all. We’ll see.

^^^ nice lol :D

I was initially going to go back to my country, but since I am now a permanent resident I could just as well stay. Yay for loopholes in the immigration system :)

Iuileb, I have the same with my parents…

My mum’s christmas wishes? “I wish you not getting in” that’s called supportive parent ;)

Hahahaha… My mom was similar. She said something along the lines of “I hope you get in but then choose to stay here anyway.”

and I have to protest! I’m 18 already, so in Poland “adult”. I can’t be childish or too romantic :)

Sorry everybody, I didn’t make it clear my parents are obsessed with the idea of my staying IN the US, not in Russia:)
And sonicexx, I turned 18 yesterday, so maybe that’s why I’m being so cinical today lol

@luleb,…
heheh… i’m not 17 actually… i’m 20… i’ve seen a bit of the world…
but yeah… mebbe i’d be different at 40… but right now i’m glad i wanna change the world

I’m probably going to study Chemistry but may consider doing Maths. I’m pretty interested in traveling around the world, and with a Chemistry degree I could probably find work most places. So… Returning to Singapore is in the cards, but not sure when.

if i get into some american college then i’d stay over there and come back when i’m older and rich enough to get into our politics and change something.
:)

You guys need to understand that most can not stay even if they want to. As an employer I can tell you it have become very difficult to sponsor students to stay. Engineering graduates have the best shot and for anything else an employer needs to make a case that an American can not be found for the job. And even then it is a lottery.

With the current US economy this will get worse, not better. Do not come with hopes of staying.

It would be kind of boring for me to stay after the education… I mean it is pointless, like playing a video game with all the cheats and God mode on. Much more interesting to come back and try to improve the living conditions. But that’s just me :)

Barium you mentioned you are now a permanent resident. How did you become a resident while being an international student ?

As I recall, B@r!um won the visa lottery. This has nothing whatsoever to do with being a college student. You can read about the lottery at [Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery Instructions](<a href=“404 - Page Not Found”>404 - Page Not Found)

I don’t know.
I DO know I don’t want to raise any kids i might have in the future in America.
