"is scholarship just a euphemism for grant here"

Yep.

"is scholarship just a euphemism for grant here"

Yep.

hey, TheCity, no, you are not talking down on me.Yes, I am really dumb. or , as dumb as you can imagine..... hehe
wait, it doesn't mean that i am retarded! being dumb is totally different from being retarded~

ZERO aid. efc about 40k + .. so i got 2500 loan and 2000 workstudy.. i didnt even check loan and work study when i did my fafsa and css..

definitely unhappy.. i was hoping maybe a few thousands so i'd at least have something to work with.. sucks.

Something must be wrong....we received NO aid (aside from that 2.5k loan) when our family is eligible for a pell grant. Additionally, we didn't receive that pell grant on our award notice...

^ I think you should call the financial aid office and see what's going on.

Yeah, we called and left a message...but I just wanted to tell that to people, make sure to call and get everythin straight because it would be a shame if you got in...got this supposedly "crappy" aid and it turns out its the wrong packet.

Hi. well, i still havent received my letter in the mail yet, so i dont know how much $ i will get. My parents told me that unless i get a decent chunk of cash, there's no way.
Now here's the thing: my parents do have money, we're pretty well off, but by no means filthy rich. Just pretty good above average. Here's the twist: they will pay for only about 20k a year and i am left to the rest. So if i dont get much $, i'm screwed.
So what i guess i'm asking is how well off are your families compared to how much $ you got. You dont have to say dollar amounts, but and idea and any other info like how many other kids will be in college (my family will have 3 next year) and any other pertinent info. Thanks, and as the title says, sorry if this sounds a little intruisive. I'm just curious... and terrified ;)

I love these obnoxious "merit schlarships" with fancy names that are only given to people who would have gotten that exact amount in need-based aid instead. Thanks so much Northwestern!!

With no other kids in college and approx. 115k before taxes I got 20k in "scholarship" and 5 in other loans/work study. I was pleasantly surprised. Won't be going to NU but hopefully this is a barometer for my other schools! How good is NU's financial aid considered?

as far as im concerned, NUs fin aid isnt that great. Where are you going, since not NU, barski?

Hmm.. this is all very discouraging, I'm still going to apply for class of 2010 but financial aid is going to be a big factor in deciding where I will be attending Fall 2006!

I'm so confused, so my $20,000/yr "Northwestern Scholarship" was in fact need-based aid? not considering the federal loans and work-study listed below it...

It all depends on this Friday...already got into UVa's Echols program but I'm waiting on Brown, Princeton, Columbia, and Yale.

"Sound of nerves wracking"

Should I call the financial aid office if I haven't received anything about FA info? Or can I see it online?

danggg per year?? and was that for merit or just aid? sorry if i am imposing but how is your family's financial situation? are you relatively normal and middle class like me?? ah i need money. this is my dream school. im waiting for the financial aid package soon :/

I was really dissapointed at NU's offer, until I saw Duke's....now NU's still isn't good, but it's sure looking better.

where does it tell you about your fin aid?

mine came on a paper inside the folder that had my admission letter

I didn't get my FA stuff yet! anybody else still in the same situation?

you should be able to view it online
Set up your e-mail w/ NU and then you can get to their CAESAR website. Just login from there, on the left, click "For Applicant", and then "View my financial Aid" I never committed or anything, I just emailed the admissions office, and this is what they told me to do b/c my letter got lost in the mail. And this worked for me. Hope i could be of service.
