I am applying for the Army ROTC Scholarship and this is what I wrote so far on the first question, I know I’m not the best writer so I would appreciate any constructive criticism on what could be fixed and/or any grammatical/punctual errors or better diction. Please.
TOPIC: Why you wish to enroll in the Army ROTC program. Indicate in your statement how you believe your own objectives in life are related to the education and training offered by Army ROTC and what a career obligation means to you.
Being an officer in the United States Army has always been one of my biggest dreams. Growing up by Fort Stewart, an Army base in Georgia, I was always surrounded by people in the Army. My mother’s friends would share with me details about their military lives and their interesting stories as active duty Soldiers; hearing these and seeing how proud these men and women were to call themselves Soldiers made me look at them as nothing less than heroes, and rightfully so.
It is my belief that the US Army has the best leadership training and career choices of the United States military branches. The advanced leadership training in conjunction with the extensive quantity of job choices, the ease of returning to civilian life, and the overall Esprit De Corp shared in the Army are just some of the reasons why my biggest dream includes joining the Army.
My dream of being an Army pilot is not one that I want to put on hold to go to college, yet my education is very important to me and furthering it is something I cannot do without and would not like to put on hold either. I believe that the two aforementioned circumstances along with the program’s ability to help me further build myself and enhance my leadership capabilities make me the perfect the Army ROTC candidate. Not only will I benefit from the Army ROTC program, but the Army would benefit from having me as an officer as I would be so grateful for the training and hard work put into improving me so that I could be a better person and be better qualified for my career.
Though it is hard for some people, choosing a career for me was easy. It is something I have always dreamed of this since I was younger and something I won’t stop reaching for until I conquer. I am a firm believer that if you choose a career that you truly love, you will never work a day in your life and completing tasks necessary in your job will be made easier. A career obligation to me is a duty or commitment that you take in your career promising to stay committed to your occupation. When you choose a career that makes you happy and fulfills your goals, as I have, staying committed and completing your duties will come with ease and happiness.
