art at Columbia?

Hi everyone!
I'm applying to Columbia in the fall and was wondering about the art program there.
I've heard that it's pretty tiny but I'm not looking to major in art -- just to take a couple decent classes.

Also, does anyone know if the admissions people frown upon submitting extra materials like a portfolio? I know the website says it's allowed but I have a feeling that if I submitted one they might think it was obnoxious. Art has been a major part of my high school life, so I definitely want to include it some way in my application.

Thanks so much!

Looks like you just answered your own question. If it’s a major part of your life (and your application will flounder without it), then send it. Of course the admission officers will understand.

I’m not so sure about their art department, but hey, you’d get free passes to the MoMA and other art scenes of NYC! :]
