The deadline to apply for Art Center's scholarship for the spring semester is 10/1, and I don't think I can make it. I would definitely need the scholarship... but I just don't think I can finish editing my portfolio before 10/1. Do you guys know if Art Center allows re-applying/other opportunities later on for scholarships, say, in sophomore year.

2nd question, I went to SVA for animation and had a 3.4 GPA, and now am trying to transfer into the Illustration program in Art Center. The admissions counselor said I had a high chance of getting in, but I'm not sure if she was just being nice. I showed her mainly my life drawings though, and in the 10-15 pieces portfolio requirement, the most life-drawings I can use is 5... even 5 seems a bit too many. My question is, what subject matter would you suggest me to do for the rest of the imaginative pieces? Since I don't really have much besides lifedrawing ones. Also, what do you think about my chance of getting in? That's a really lame/vague question but I guess I just need a confidence boost...lol :[

if you been to SVA however long, you should have enuff pieces to pick from to build portfolio.
still got more than a week, I bet you can do it.
I don’t know much about Art Center besides there was one kid poster who got in two-three years ago, neat basic graphic design works. I don’t know how he is doing now. If you look portfolio thread way back or search this forum, you might find more posts.

I heard getting into Art Center is very competitive. Their average age of entering freshman is 24, because many highly interested students took time to ready a strong portfolio. I find 10/1 to be a tight date to reach now; don’t they expect you to send in some originals? If I am correct to presume that you are currently at SVA, you need to make a hard investment to get your application completed and sent ASAP. Is it necessary that you enter the Spring term? You know you could enter their summer term? They run in trimesters, not two semesters like SVA.

I don’t want to discourage you from trying to apply now, though, but I feel that if you feel you won’t make it, maybe you should put your chance on hold and rather focus for the time being on setting up a body of work you’re confident with to send in either around January 1st for the summer term, or March 1st for the Fall. Even so, a little more than a week is a little more than a week. But I think if your application misses the deadline, you will not be qualified for a scholarship but consideration to add you to the program, given that you’re accepted. I suggest looking at their website for the deadline for scholarship opportunities. Best wishes, and remember (old saying, picked up someone on this website): the harder you work, the luckier you get.

hey I found it, it was 2008
some kids never bother to take down old stuff but he did, so you can not see his work anymore.
back then I was just started following this site and thought,
“it’s clean and nice but not extraordinary or anything…huh” (note - I have some sort of graphics background and am very biased bad judge)
then learned that he was a fresh outa HS kid, 17 or 18. so, it happens. I don’t think he is around anymore but if you search his other posts, that’s all he talked about.
Art Center is the only place he wanted to go. wonder how he is doing.
Of course soft, hardware standards have changed in these two years drastically.
they’d expect more from everybody.
But if you “have” it, better the school, better they would see it in you, is my hope.
