Art portfolio summer programs for high school students

I'm a high school sophomore and I really want to go to Parsons. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good summer art program for developing an art portfolio. There are so many- I don't know which to choose! I would prefer if it were in the New England area, close to Boston....

Great question, and it's good that you're already interested in doing this as a sophomore. My daughter attended a 6-week pre-college program after her junior year and wish she had done something similar after sophomore year.

You might want to try asking your question in the Visual Arts and Film majors forum: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/visual-arts-film-majors/

An older thread about summer programs that I hope is still accessible is

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University both have summer programs. There's also plenty in Manhattan (Parsons included!) if you're willing to travel there.

I went to MICA's (Maryland Institute College of Art) summer program when I was in HS. IT WAS AMAZING. I chose it rather than RISD or Parsons because it was cheaper -- and I liked the trip opportunities included - for instance, each class went to New York for a weekend. I ended up with a good portfolio by summer's end, and a scholarship offer. I'm not going to an Art School for University... but loved MICA.
