<li>A portfolio is a selection of your recent artwork that emphasizes versatility of media and subject matter. It should represent the variety and quality of your capabilities as an artist and give the viewer a sense of your passion and work ethic. The portfolio should include a minimum of 15 pieces from class assignments and self-initiated projects. It should demonstrate knowledge and versatility of media and subject matter, combined with an understanding of color, composition and design.</li>
</ul>
<p>Here are some helpful guidelines to follow when preparing your portfolio to submit as part of your application:</p>
<p>While 15 pieces is the minimum, you may show more, including your current sketchbooks and journal.
For digital media, JPEG format is preferred but files in any universal audio, video, graphic or Web formats are acceptable. Presentation formats such as PowerPoint or QuickTime Video are not required for digital images.
If images are compiled in video, slide show or presentation format, individual still JPEG images must also be included.
Individual files should not be any larger than 1MB each. Images should not exceed 1100 wide or 800 tall at 72-90 DPI if possible.
Time-based work or performance pieces may be submitted in video format or as QuickTime files on a CD or DVD.
You may send your portfolio either first-class mail or use parcel service so that it arrives in good condition and in a timely manner to:
Kansas City Art Institute
Admissions Office
4415 Warwick Blvd.
Kansas City, MO 64111
You may also e-mail your portfolio to: <a href=“mailto:portfolios@kcai.edu”>portfolios@kcai.edu</a>. Please refer to the digital size requirements or contact your admissions counselor Jonah Criswell (<a href=“mailto:jcriswell@kcai.edu”>jcriswell@kcai.edu</a>) if you choose this option. Remember that your admissions counselor will help you through this process so please let us know if you have any questions.</p>
<p>I would add be sure to include self-initiated pieces and not just works done for classroom assignments. This shows them that you have a real interest beyond class and that is what they are all looking for.</p>
<p>shoot I just realized that the Jonah person in the end of the message could be a regional guy.
You could ask questions, I guess, but maybe not get answer if you are not in his turf and mailing list.
I wish I am not violating any CC rules. I got suspended once, you know.</p>
