@cag60093 @ArtAngst
MWP already sent the merit package. D got 13K and it seems like 16K is the max they offer. (I went in their calculator and entered all the top choices and ended up with a 16k). We have not heard anything about the loan offer, but we did from Parsons and assuming it will be the similar amount. Parsons and UofArts offered the max when it comes to merit, which was 24K/yr, but since their tuition and other expenses are more than PrattMWP overall so far MWP is coming to the least expensive for us. Still to hear more from MICA. Good to know they are capable of increasing the merit!! Since D did not get the max of the merit at MWP we are wondering if there is a way to talk to them to ask for more when we meet. I think I need to understand more of this EFC thing! For now we dont want her to get stuck with a student loan. But who knows what we might have to do.
I thought this post from @blossom is very helpful on a different thread:
“Your college is my top choice. If you can increase the award by 3K or 4.2K (fill in the blank) I am prepared to sign on the dotted line”.
Since PrattMWP is least expensive for now and may be your D’s top choice, it may be a good tactic to consider. Since you are still waiting for other RD decisions and have not yet received final financial aid packages, you may (like us) have to wait patiently for now. I know how hard it is to do.
@cag60093 D heard back from all 14 schools she had applied. The only RD was RIT and we chked the status today and she is accepted. Their financial info might be coming in the mail since they had nothing about it in the status update.
Thank you for all the info. I guess we have to try our best and go prepared with the numbers. I know some schools like SCAD are quite open to negotiations. MWP having one of the lower tuitions… don’t know what they will do. I hope it works out for ALL of us!! And the kids don’t have to start out with a loan bearing over the head when they graduate.
@SomaRathore That’s wonderful that she received decisions from all her colleges. Congrats to her! Best wishes as you and she factor in all the options.
oops and I realized having written that on lunch break that Parsons offered $7k more - as in $7,000 not $7.
;D
What were the stats for your daughter at Stamps?
What is the program like?
I just want to chime and say that as long as you are polite, you would not at all have bad blood with a school if you can ask directly if your student qualifies for additional aid. Just keep it simple and always express your appreciation. The admissions and financial aid reps tend to be very understanding. Even if you end up where you started, at least you asked. On the other hand, you could have a story like @ArtAngst!
For Ringling and a look at game design and (now some VR) look on YouTube for videos from “deep fried paint”. She’s currently a junior but has made videos since a freshman which show and explain work she’s doing, what classes are like etc. Easy to follow her progress through the major.
@gouf78 Thank you for the resource. We will check it out.
@ArtAngst I figured it was $7K That is actually a really good amount over what he already had!
@cag60093 — VR and illustration are miles apart. Just want to help your D land where she wants to!
@gouf78 I agree and realize the distance between the two.
Just FYI, my daughter is Freshman at Michigan at Stamps school of Art. She decided to live in central campus and not in North Campus where Stamps is. She had both classes at Central campus and North at Stamps and it hasn’t been an issue at all. The bus system is fantastic at UM. I would not let that be a factor at all about Michigan.
Hi has anyone that applied close to the deadline heard from Pratt Parsons or CalArts? I received good news from PrattMWP a few days ago but still waiting for the last three. Do they usually send out decisions this late? :-S
@coolmichelle No news from Pratt for us. Acceptance from PrattMWP came last week but nothing from the Brooklyn campus. (Son did not apply to Cal Arts - sorry.) I also find it hard to believe that they wait this long to accept kids. We are in the process of finalizing accepted student visits with his top two and I find it hard to believe that others aren’t doing the same or are even further along in the process. Seems like their enrollment would suffer due to the lateness, but according to the dorm situation the past few years, that is NOT the case. Who knows…
@coolmichelle My daughter’s friend still hasn’t heard from Parsons. A couple of her friends got into CalArts experimental animation, but we hear that character animation will be second week in March at the earliest. Good luck!
They’re saying around March 12 on the Parsons thread.
Are there any Maryland families considering Towson University Art School? My daughter has been accepted into Tyler , vcu, and mica but Towson would be much more affordable to us.
Hi, yesterday D just received another offer from MassArt with merit 32k.
Anyone knows this MassArt good for the Illustration major or not? Is it a good choice?
James you must have investigated the school prior to applying. I am going to go out on a limb and say there was a reason for submitting a portfolio to mass art other than they have a scholarship.
