I was wondering if any of you knew of any Performing Arts highschools that accept out of state (with an MT program) as long as you find a place to stay while you're there? Any help is appreciated!

Interlochen is the Arts HS that comes to mind - it’s designed as a boarding school - with dormitories and food service. For us, it’s in our home state of Michigan - but was out of reach financially. We’ve known several who have attended - not just for MT - but for Vocal Performance (classical) and Instrumental Music. It’s a fabulous program, and their students routinely get into top colleges. It is audition based - there is some financial aid. It’s worth checking out.

Idyllwild in the LA area is a boarding school for the arts.

Interlochen and Idyllwild are both great choices. Also - Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Massachusetts

Thank-you guys! Do any of you know any that aren’t boarding schools?

The School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) is part of the Cincinnati Public Schools. No room and board, but families of current students have been known to house those from far away.

I know there are performing arts schools in many cities including New York, Cincinnati, Etc… Many of these are also auditioned programs. If they are in a public school system you would probably have to establish residency before being allowed to apply. I know of one in KY where you must apply in August/September, audition in December then find out in feb/march if you are accepted for the next year. We met some kids during the audition process from Ft. Worth Texas who attend a private arts high school there. I do not know its costs or if you must audition to get in. But it is not a boarding school.

You can be a day student at Interlochen.

Anyone living in the USA can audition at Orange County High School for the Arts, they have a fantastic MT program. It is not a boarding school and admissions is extremely competitive,
