My passion is art, (visual arts, creative writing, and music), so someone suggested I look into an art academy. I know of Interlochen and Walnut Hill (Idyllwild is too far unfortunately). Do anyone of you have thoughts on either of these schools? Are there any alternatives? I'm not positive I will be able to get in, considering their prestige.
I am also aware that you must chose a major. I'm kind of torn between the three above...
Oh, and additionally, I can't seem to find reliable admission rates on any of them.

I would just like some general info on art school. Thanks for your help!

You could also consider a summer program at Interlochen. You’ll want to do some thinking about which of those three areas is your strongest.

I would love to, but I already do the CTY summer programs, and my mother said that Interlochen is too far away. (which stinks because I was extremely interested in the comparative arts major)
My strongest area is definitely writing, specifically prose but also short stories. Visual arts is a close second with my specialty being in soft pastels. Music is more of a hobby; I’m one of the top at my school but nowhere near some of the other teens I’ve seen.
I really want to apply to Walnut Hill Arts Academy now, but my mom isn’t too eager on that either.

Walnut Hill is not known for its selectivity in their admissions process, but the acceptance rate differs each year for different “majors”
I can speak to Walnut Hill as I have a friend who was admitted (with FA). He chose not to go for the following reason: If you attend, you choose one area of interest. For example, if you are into drama, drama will be your life - you will not have much, if any, time, funds, or support to participate in other forms of art (i.e.no more painting if your major is drama)

If you like art thats great. If you like specifically ONE form of art and will 100% do that in college, go to walnut hill. If you like a wide variety of art and still dont know if thats what you want to do in the future…dont go.

Though an unofficial rival of Middlesex in the same town, I urge you to look at Concord Academy. They are known for their support of the arts for all types of students, including those who enjoy a wide variety and still may want to participate in sports (there are no sports at WHS)

hope this helped

The Rivers school in Weston is very strong in music. Art is pretty good too.

At Walnut Hill you could major in visual arts and still take lessons in your instrument. The
English teacher my D has this year, has her masters in creative writing. She is planning on offering a creative writing elective. Also, I know of several people who have switched majors if their focus changes. Walnut Hill is a fantastic, supportive environment and the teachers and administrators will work with you to reach your goals. My D finds it inspiring to be surrounded my so many talented students. Nothing to lose by applying.
They also have a summer program if you want to “test-drive” the program.
