as a pre-med student, I want to AP-out calculus I and II

use AP CAL AB/BC (5/5);
Do I need to take CAL III that is multi-val CAlculus or I can just take statistics ?

and

do I need to take 2 semester college maths ?

thanks

Math requirements vary by med school as do their acceptance of AP credits. At some few schools college taught calculus is required, so if you used your AP credits you’d be taking a higher calc course. My D was in the same situation with AP’s , did not take college calculus at all, took stats, and found plenty of schools to apply to. Only one program at one school was hard to give up (Harvard HST requires some type of math/Calc she didn’t have and she tried to have it “waived” but to no avail).

curmudgeon,

thanks

D’s majoring in ChemE, following a pre-med track as she hasn’t decided … but anyway, she tested out of Calc1 and 2. She just took Calc 3, instead. Fullfills a calc requirement the med schools want and keeps her moving with her ChemE degree, as well. But then she absolutely loves math; it’s her second language.
