I've lived in the states for about 7 years now.
Have been attending schools here too.
We were expecting to get our green card around this summer, but
something went wrong with it and now I have to apply as an international student. (and No, we're not illegal -_-)

I am E-2 dependent, and have been for over a year, and my friend who's attending UCSD
says that I'll still be applying as a Resident even if I don't have the "permanent residency" (greencard)... because I've lived here for 7 years paying taxes..
How does that work ?
Won't I be an international student since I am not a "permanent" resident?

Oh btw, he says that's only if I don't apply for any of the scholarships offered at the schools...

Since you have a unique situation, I would advise you to speak directly with each school you apply to and see how they would view your scenario. Perhaps they may require some paperwork – perhaps they can’t do anything. However, it’s worth the effort to be judged as a resident.

Your friend is correct about UCs, if you’ve lived and gone to school in CA for three years you will get in state rates. You will be considered an international by other school.

Talk with your immigration lawyer about the green card situation, and find out what the regulations are about working as an E-2 dependent. You may be better off to help out in your parent’s business for a year or so while you wait for the paperwork to come through so that you have the green card when you apply to college.
