ASD and College Selection in Southeast/Tennessee

Anyone have experience with teens with ASD(Autism) highly functioning…and college selection? My teen has a 35 ACT score, 4.0/4.49 GPA, 8/300 class ranking. We have applied to Sewanee and UT Knoxville, so far. Because of the autism, he has absolutely zero extracurricular activities to put on the applications. Financial aid is a must for us. Besides the above question, I guess I would like to know has anyone received scholarship money to either of these two schools based on grades alone? Also, any good schools that can be suggested to also apply to? University of Alabama has a great program for ASD students but that would require out of state tuition and the scholarship would only cover classes and not housing. I guess, I have a ton of questions  Thanks to anyone with input.

University of Alabama has great out of state merit scholarships that your child’s ACT score already qualifies them for. Check it out

I thought UT Knoxville had academic scholarships that were automatic for high stats which your son would definitely qualify for. On their site they have a list of the awards and what the qualifications are.

From a friend’s experience, it is my understanding that Sewanee places importance on campus visits. If you haven’t visited and a visit is possible, it could be beneficial.

If you are concerned about your son’s social skills or attending class or living in a,dorm or…, you might consider Tennessee Promise, a state program that provides two years of free tuition at a community college in Tennessee. This option for graduates of high schools in Tennessee might bridge any difficulty moving from high school to college and /or allow a student to gather required courses for transfer into junior year of college at modest cost. Community colleges in Tennessee offer classes that are academically competitive with four-year schools.
