Asian-American from NYC chances @ NYU Stern, GT School of Business, UChicago

Hi everyone!

I'm applying to NYU Stern, Georgetown Business School and UChicago. (I omited the safety schools because i know for sure i'll get in)
I'm planning to major in Finance / minor in Information Technology Systems.

Minority: Asian American from fairly competitive High School in Brooklyn,NYC
Rank: 150 / 873 GPA: 3.5weighted

ACTS: 33 Composite- 35math,34english,35reading,29sci,34writting(optional)
SAT II: 630 US History (taking two more this January28th)

Highlights (PROS):
Microsoft Certified Professional (Industry-Standard)
Certified Cisco Web Designer
Washington Mutual Bank Internship (2 years)
Web Administrator - High School's Webpage
Personal Investor; Online Stock Trading via. etrade.com

(CONS):
I seriously messed up at Foreign Language. I switched out from a Chinese class to take Spanish and that pretty much ruined my Average. My avg in F.L is like 75. In fact, that artifically deflated my grade. Aside from that, all my other classes are within B+ to A level grade.

A/P & Honors Classes:
I've been taking mostly business-related classes during High School and my work experience / volunteer are also business related. Most of my business classes are considered to be Honors. Aside from that, AP English, Enriched Mathematics B, WE THE PEOPLE (course that'll compete nationally), AP Computer Programming.

Superb Recommendations: English Teacher, Math Teacher, Bank Manager, WallStreet_Rising Director of Operations, Bklyn Church of Chinese Christians, Accountant's Recommendation.

Very Stellar essays (Only done w/ GT's essay though). At least that's what other people told me.

{{{What Chances do you think I have to making any of those schools? I'll be damn happy if i can make it into one of my three top choices. Sorry for the exceptionally Long post. Thanks for taking your time to read!}}}

anyone?

I think you have a good chance at NYU, but I don't know a lot about UChicago or Georgetown so I really don't know about those two :(

thanks for the reply and opinion =]

Anyone else...?

Regards,
Cal

Good chances.. where do you go? I dont know any "fairly competitve" schools in brooklyn besides tech.

Why didn't you apply to Wharton as a reach? If you had applied early, I think you would have had a really good chance to get in there, given your obvious interest in business and all the extracurriculars you've taken part in partaining to your interest.

CHIBIFRY - I go to Edward R. Murrow High School. The other "fairly competitive" schools are probaby Tech (like you said), Midwood High School and Murrow H.S.

Jli2006 - I rather stay in New York City because my dad owns a small business in downtown Manhattan. He plans to expand his business and I rather stay in NY to help him if possible. Aside from that, I love New York City and many scholarships I applied (and were granted) requires me to attend school in NYC. Wharton isn't bad at all, I might apply to that for Grad School; unless I get into NYU Stern.

Thanks for your replies guys!

Feel free to add any more comments / opinions.

Did you apply early anywhere?

Nope. I took my ACTs this past November since my SATs were horrible. That's one of the reasons I held back on applying early.

The only thing I'm afraid of is my low average on my Foreign Language. That brought my average down quite a bit. I don't know exacty how important F.L is (when compared to other subjects-math,english,sci,etc).

Any opinions on this matter?

bump..bump..

anyone?

bump...bump

You have No chance at Stern lol

bump....

How about UChicago and GT School of Business?

Your chances for NYU are very high (80% or more) with the finance experience and strong skills in technology, which can be very relevant to business.

GPA is too low for U Chicago, so I would say 30-35%. I assume you can get into Georgetown, and your chances are probably slightly lower than they are for NYU.

you have a good shot at nyu and uchicago. The only iffy thing is ur gpa. Maybe ur recs or essay could help you.

By the way, I go to Midwood. And in one of my previous jobs, I attended a meeting at the wall st. rising with my supervisor in june.
Its a small world after all.lol

lol wow!
Small world indeed =]

bummmmps....

Question : Include or Exclude Resume w/ College Application?
