Asian Americans

lol agreed with acerockolla, why all the negativity towards each other? does it matter? nope, it really doesnt. i think that if all of you high schoolers in here were to get into the school of ur choice, ud shut up about the whole "AA thing" becuase afterwards u dont really care. but if u DONT, then u'll ramble on and on about AA and how u didnt get in cause of AA ahah its life.

I'm not bitter. We were banned; it was another blip in America's racist history. I'm just stating why we're not that visible in politics and in the corporate world.

"YOU can rest assured that there are more successful hispanic owned, black owned, and of course white owned companies."

Again, please cite statistics. Even if it were true, because blacks and hispanics(2000 census numbers) each compose more than 12% of the nation's population, sheer numbers would indicate that indeed they would own more small businesses than asians, which compose more than 3.6% of the nation. Your point is moot.

"blacks endured slavery and segregation and all you asians did was benefit from the civil rights movement. "

I don't even know how to respond to this: benefit? That's certainly a new twist. Your next post is an ad hominem attack. You haven't addresses my other post at all. I accept your concession. Well, your poor grammar skills indicate that you aren't very educated anyways. shrug

instead of playing the race card and vyying for sympathy, why don't you just admit that asians aren't so superior?

Harvardbond,

Cite where I used the "race card".

I will admit that asians are not superior genetically. I am a firm believer of the American dream.

I'm a veteran of the slashdot boards, and 'harvardbond' is showing all the marks of a troll. Mispelled screen name, blatantly racist and inflammatory posts...

I have to admit, it is kinda funny, as long as you don't count what he's saying as anything real.

have you read any of the posts by your people. the majority of them hint at this idiotic notion that asians are superior to whites and other races. i just said look at your accomplshments outside of the classroom. there are virtually none. all you can say is wait twenty years. give me a break

okay this isnt an english paper, we dont need to CITE things now people. geesh am i the only asian on here that doesnt think that asians are superior and that AA ISNT against asians? its true that asian kids are better students than MOST black/white/hispanic kids, but remember, we are also less in number. so in about a 100 white kids, theres probably about 5 asian kids. out of those 100 white kids, there are probably 10 very intelligent, very sucessful kids, but only about 3 of those asian kids are the same caliber as the white kids. so maybe asians do seem "smarter" but only a selected number is. also, most asians who immigrated here are poor and had a bad life at their old country, and so they TRY MUCH harder than the white/black kids (who take most htings asian kids think are a gift for granted). Overall, i dont think that asians are intelligently superior, i think that we work alot harder. I dont think harvardbond is racist at all (and who said u need to spell ur screename right? he can spell it anyway he wants); he (like myself) is tired of a certain number of asians who happens to work very hard and happen to suceed think that the asian race is superior. if we're so superior, why do we have to come to america? hey im not agains tmy own ethnic group, im just sayin it like the way it is, or maybe because i practically grew up here, so im more openminded and i dont distinguish between this race adn that race, there is no such thing as a RACE, its just different ethnic groups.

I'm a veteran of other boards and I know what trolls are. I'm a troll myself on this online Go server and am currently banned. We shall ignore him then (:

Nguyen, where are you getting these numbers? What's your definition of success? You're generalizing without any proof.

This is true for Vietnamese, but most Chinese/Taiwanese/Japanese who immigrate here tend to be educated middle class members with degrees. Again, where did I say the asians are superior. I can't believe you are taking his side. Trolls galore today, ain't it, folks?

SE Asian kids should definitely get affirmative Action.

Hmongs, Laotians, vietnamese, etc... these refugees all fought for the CIA in meaningless wars. SE Asians should not be denied affirmative action.

The best model is that East Asian and White kids compete head to head for all spots, and there is an untouchable percentage given to Affirmative Action candidates of black, brown, SE Asian, and native american ethnicities.

Best model? No one I know (including minorites) wants that? Have you ever talked to many minorities outside of your group of buddies and asked what they thought?

hmm... well frankly no I haven't. What do u think is the best model? Who are you? How did you do that?

"Bird of Prey, since you " hadn't thought of it from the viewpoint of a diversity of viewpoints," do you support AA for the sake of bringing racial and ideological viewpoints onto a campus?"

Yes, opposed viewpoints and opinions are good, as long as people are able to listen to what the other side has to say.

I am not one to judge for the best model, but I think the system is fine. People want achieve on their own. They don't want to have to say "Yes, I went to an Ivy League, but it may have only been because I am black that I got in." Would you want to say that?

"The best model is that East Asian and White kids compete head to head for all spots, and there is an untouchable percentage given to Affirmative Action candidates of black, brown, SE Asian, and native american ethnicities."

You're advocating quotas.

That is one form of AA I'm firmly against, because in a quota system, you run the risk of having people there that definitely don't deserve to be, even moreso than with AA as it is used today.

Well its about the same as an Asian American at Georgetown who got 1550 on the SAT and took 10 AP courses.

" Oh you must have not gotten into Harvard or Yale with those scores because your Asian"

Its about the same as that, I suppose. Both are fine with me.

I, personally, would rather seem dumb for my racial standard, than someone who only got somewhere in the world because of my race and not because of my achievements.

Well, if you had to choose, wouldn't u want for there to be zero bias for any race, any gender, anything, etc??? just based on pure talent and hard work?? Years and generations of racism has shown to have detrimental effects on IQ in the Northern Irish, BTW

Zero bias is a pipe dream. All efforts to correct the problem result in other biases. Like I have said before, life is not fair people should learn to live with that.

So uh...

Sure there's racism. It'll die out, I'm sure, given enough time.
I've met it maybe five times in my entire lifetime. And every time I hear or see it from someone, they've always been some uneducated worthless slob. Not worth my attention. Just a bunch of idiots trapped in some pit.

I don't really care. If someone will turn away an excellent and brilliant applicant due to race, sucks for them. One less Nobel prize for them to brag about, one million fewer dollars from an alum contributor. Fool.

Why can't we just have race-blind admissions? Huh? Why not? Ah well.

This AA garbage never hurt me any, as far as I can tell. I got into my dream college just fine.
